Dannenbaum-Sadler Divorce

San Francisco Chronicle 12 Jun 1920, p. 13

Surgeon’s Wife Asks Allowance

Mrs. Dannenbaum Also Wants Division of Community Property

Suit for $750 a month, as permanent separate maintenance, and half of community property valued at $83,550 was filed against Dr. Sidney R. Dannenbaum in the Superior Court yesterday by Mrs. Marie Litta Dannenbaum. She says he was cruel, told her he had ceased to love her, advised her to divorce him and on April 17 ordered her to leave their home. Since then, she says, he has contributed nothing to her support and she has been compelled to live on the charity of relatives and friends.

The Dannenbaums were married in St. Louis, October 4, 1909. Mrs. Dannenbaum says her husband’s practice as a physician and surgeon brings him from $1500 to $2500 a month.  She names as defendants a number of his relatives and business associates, in whose names, she says, much of their community property stands.  She asks the Court to restrain them from disposing of it pending settlement of the suit. She asks that Dannenbaum also be compelled to pay a fee of $2500 to her attorney, Henry G. W. Dinkelspiel, and court costs.

Husband Accused of Neglecting Sick Wife

Mrs. Marie L. Dannenbaum was granted a divorce by Superior Judge George H. Cabaniss yesterday from Dr. Sidney R. Dannenbaum on the ground of cruelty. They were marred at St. Louis in 1909, and separated April 17, 1920. When she was sick in bed for three weeks last January, she said, Dr. Dannenbaum neglected here entirely. His indifference so depressed her that it hindered her recovery, she said. When her brother telephoned from St. Louis in an effort to patch up their differences, she said, Dr. Dannenbaum informed him he was through with Mrs. Dannenbaum, was going to send her home to her parents and advised the brother “not to be a jackass.” Property rights were settled out of court. Mrs. Dannenbaum’s maiden name of Sadler was restored to her.
