Alphonse Moses Notes

Alphonse was born about 1850, showing his birth place variously as Bavaria, Louisiana and France; with Germany, France and Luxembourg sharing borders and annexing and reclaiming territory throughout the years, it would be easy to be confused if ones birth place is traded back and forth between countries.  Alphonse lists his mother's birth place as Luxenbourg and his fathers birth place as Bavaria.  On the census, he listed his birth place as France three times, Bavaria once and Louisiana once.

In 1860, Alphonse is living with his father Louis, step mother Emily, two half-siblings, and brothers Arthur and Eugene.  By 1870, he is living with hiss two brothers in Pike, Mississippi where it appears he married about 1871 or 1872 where his first chid was born.  By 1880, he and his bamily were living next door to his brother Arthur in Terrell, Kaufman, Texas.  His occupation was 'selling whiskey'.  In 1900, he and his family are living in Dallas, Dallas, Texas and he seems to be a traveling salesman.

On the 1891 and 1892 Dallas city Directory, he worked for the Empire Employment and Intelligence Offic, as an agent for beer faucets and bar room supplies (still in the alcohol business).  On the 1893 and 1894 City Directories, he had the business name of A. Moses & Co. and was a traveling salesman.

Alphonse was still in Dallas Texas in 1910, but Emma was listed as a widow in 1920.
