 | Levee Department Store From VALLEJO, by James E. Kern, published by Arcadia, 2004: Levee’s was a popular local department store that grew from humble beginnings. Sarjah levee was born in Germany in 1866 and came to the United States 1880. He worked initially for the S. Dannenbaum Company, a dry goods store on Georgia Street, and eventually opened Levee’s Department tore at the corner of Georgia and Sacramento Streets in 1896. Levee’s underwent a major reconstruction in 1970 but eventually closed in the early 1980s, unable to survive the decline of Vallejo’s downtown business district |
