20 Apr 1906, San Jose Evening News, p. 5

The Roos Family In Camp

Mr. Roos, head of the firm of Roos Bros., clothiers, of San Francisco, with his two sons, and lady members of his family, and Mrs. Morris Meyerfeld, whose husband is at the head of the Orpheum Theater Company, arrived in town late last night in an auto.

They camped in the grounds at the Vendome.

Mr. Roos said this morning:

“Our home and our business has been swept by flames. We only saved the auto. We camped in the park in San Francisco for awhile, but thought we would be better off here, so we came through yesterday afternoon.

“We are going on to Fruitvale where we have friends. I understand they are all right there.”

Mrs. Meyerfeld, said:

“My husband started for New York a few days ago. He will be greatly worried until he hears from us. We have not been able to send a telegram since we reached here.

“The last I saw of John Morrissey was when he borrowed one of our teams to take his wife from the Palace Hotel. We don’t know what has become of him.”

Mr. Morrissey is one of the best known and most popular theatrical managers in the West. He has been acting manager of the Orpheum for many years.
